.The Past Bleeds.
* There have always been those of the Equus. The ones who flee with feet of stone and tresses of wind. Their slender legs and cunning minds let them survive through many ages, evolving from small and insignificant to large and mystifying. But of course, all things must evolve, and change. Forever and the rest of time. As things do, the Equines began to evolve. * On and epic night, one of sleet and hail, lightning and thunder, two were born. Twins. Rare altogether in itself, the survived yet still. But one not normal, such was seen as he came to life. He was of the purest white, the dirt from the earth never staining his alabaster hide. From his back grew awkward bulges, nothing but certain deformities. The other was of bay, his coat gleaming almost to gold. From first glance he was perfect, and all mourned the most certain loss of the moonlit foal. The bay was dubbed Invidus, a strong name for one whose future was certain to be nothing but good fortune. The other, so small and unlucky, was dubbed Pegasus, his dam bidding the curse that was set upon her babe to flee the rest of them. * As thee days turned to weeks, Invidus grew stronger. Yet little grew on young Pegasus, nothing but the deformities that graced his back. Though surprised he had thrived so long, the herd kept him distant, fearing his difference. Young and naive, Pegasus ventured off, barely able to survive without his Dam. * As he survived on his own, the tiny foal noticed great changes within himself. He needed to fly, swiftly. No other of his kind had ever thought this. Pegasus needed to feel the air, this he knew. But how? Other changes had also begun to occur. The bulges on his back grew feathered, and large. The colt feared them, yet knew they were his key. As they shaped and formed, his body began to flourish, legs growing long and muscled, body growing sleek and toned. Soon, he was no longer a child, and his deformity no longer a burden. He quickly learned to fly with his great alabaster wings, reveling in the feeling of the wind whistling through his great feathers. * Invidus, contrarily, was not so fortunate. As he grew strong, he was doted upon. He became kind and valiant, his sense of honor greater than many had ever seen. He was a hero in the making. But all was not well within his world. A large bump had begun to grow forth from his forehead, hurting more with each day. Seeing the way his twin was shunned, Invidus feared revealing this problem. And so he kept it concealed beneath his tassel, enduring the pain and hoping nothing would come of it. But come it did. * As Pegasus's wings grew, the bump upon Invidus became solid, its end becoming dagger sharp. No amount of forelock could conceal such a monstrosity, and soon everyone spoke of Invidus's pointed oddity that grew from betwixt his eyes. It was only about an ears length long, but it was certainly there, and none could believe it. Their beloved Invidus, the hope of their herd, was different. * Pegasus, no longer afraid of himself, began to travel back to his birthplace, his wings carrying him swiftly on the wind. His eyes set upon the familiar valley from which he was shunned, his gut churning with apprehension. "What if they cast me away once more?" ran through his mind regularly. In the dark of the night he alighted to Earth, his limbs too tired to hide any longer. Laying down, Pegasus allowed his wings to curl about him, sheltering him from a certain morning of chaos. * By daylight, all had awoken to a feathered figure, his face hidden, they feared him to be another bearing of bad news. As the voices tittered around him, Pegasus awoke with a start, his wings flaring out as he readied his mind. At the shocking site of the young colt they had neglected so long ago, the herd fell into a hush. So sickly he had once been, now he was strong and powerful, equipped with more than they. Realizing, for the first time, he was better. From the depths of the herd, came Invidus, the mumbles of his siblings name drawing him near. Eyes rounded, ,but not afraid, he faced his brother. For the first time, they were one and the same. Both changed, one with a spear protruding from his crania, the other with limbs sprouting from his back. "Pegasus..." Invidus mumbled with a mixture of happiness and disbelief, "we are brothers, you and I."
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*Now accepted, Pegasus flourished with attention, his past family in awe of him. He was the new hope of the herd. For the first time in his life, he was wanted. But, alas, for the first time in Invidus's life, he was a bystander as another was the center of attention. Pegasus grew conceited with the newfound doting, and Invidus grew jealous. Quite openly they fought with one another, Pegasus's aloof manner bringing them to blows very quickly. It soon became a constant war zone between the two. They could not speak to one another without yelling. In fits of anger, Pegasus unleashed powers he never thought were possible. As he screamed earth moved and water would churn. Invidus, striking back, would fight until he was sore, the rains crashing down from overhead, wind blowing and whistling. * Fearing for their own safety, the herd cast the two from their herd, sending with them any who would agree with their recklessness. Quickly the groups split, venturing apart, but always conjoining again. The femme who had followed by Invidus's side soon began to grow a horn, while the followers of Pegasus grew wings faster than even he himself had. As the two smalls herds split and met, the rivalry also grew. Terrible battles ensued, brother against brother. Their gifts made them all the more dangerous. * As one battle wore on, it had led them to a cliff, crumbling and ancient. As Pegasus stove off his brothers great horn, he raised the Earth beneath him, unaware of its instability. Before he could raise his wings, he and his comrades fell, as did Invidus and his mate. Unable to regain control, the winged ones fell as any other normal horse would. * Once more voices awoke Pegasus, and all others who slept around him. Warm sands heated their bodies, their wings limp and wet. Scrambling to their feet, Invidus and Pegasus came face to face with more horses, normal ones. Invidus's mate raised her weary head, eyes wide that they had survived, and yet Pegasus's heart crumbled as his was no where to be found. Once more he was alone, while his brother had all that was dear. * And so the herds formed, the residents of the island choosing their sides, gaining their powers. Pegasus, as vain as he had become, named his followers after himself, while Invidus strayed from such notions. The Pegasi taking refuge in the mountain of Volaticus, the Unicorn in the forests of Cornutus.
